As we step into a new year, many of us are filled with resolutions—goals for health, success, relationships, and happiness. Yet, deep down, there’s often a lingering thirst: a spiritual emptiness that no achievement or pleasure can fully satisfy.
In John 4:13-14 (NIV), Jesus speaks profound words to a Samaritan woman at the well:
“Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
Jesus contrasts ordinary water—which quenches thirst only temporarily—with the living water He offers. This living water is the gift of eternal life through faith in Him, powered by the Holy Spirit. It’s not a one-time sip but a perpetual spring bubbling up from within, providing lasting fulfillment, peace, and purpose.
In 2026, the world will offer countless “wells”: career advancements, material possessions, entertainment, or self-improvement fads. But like the woman’s daily trips to Jacob’s well, these will leave us thirsty again.
Jesus invites you today: Come to Him and drink deeply. Accept His forgiveness, surrender your life to Him, and experience the satisfaction your soul craves.
This year, resolve to thirst no more. Let Christ’s living water refresh you eternally.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You thirsty. Fill me with Your living water that I may never thirst again. Amen.
